  • What are lectins? Lectins are a type of dietary protein.  They are naturally occurring in fruits, vegetables, legumes and grains.  Raw legumes and grains tend to carry higher levels of lectins due to the seed coating.  Lectins have been categorized as an anti-nutrient.  Lectins are not broken down by digestive enzymes. Not everyone is impacted by lectins.  Reactions are dependent on the health of the GI tract, the micro-biome, and immune status. As your gut heals, you may be able to tolerate increasingly higher levels of lectins. It is recommended that you eliminate lectins (specifically legumes) from your diet for at least 90 days.
